2021 Stroke and Turn Judges
Hello Blue Ridge Stroke & Turn folks!
If you are willing to be a stroke and turn judge again this summer, please sign up at blueridge.swimtopia.com.
The meets will be shorter this year, so we’re going to have just two judges at each meet, both of whom will judge the whole meet.
I’ll be at all the meets as a backup and acting as a go-between you, the starter, and the computer people, so can help with any questions you have.
I’ll have a short refresher course (at most an hour, probably less) starting at 5:00 p.m. or so each meet night for anyone who wants one ahead of each meet (there are only four meets) just to make sure we’re all on the same page.
It would be great if you could come to at least one before you officiate. If you do plan to come, let me know so I can keep an eye out for you. I’ll probably be hanging around the starter / announcer area and then we’ll find a place to do the refresher.
Also, here are some resources in case you want to do some self-study.
1. Stroke and turn instruction plan (lots of good info here). The only major difference is for the backstroke turn, where the summer league follows high school rules which allow the swimmer to kick in as long as they want on their belly (“breast” to use the lingo) so long as they only take one stroke. https://www.usaswimming.org/docs/default-source/officialsdocuments/officials-training-resources/clinic-resources/officials-training-clinic-lesson-plan.pdf
2. Stroke and turn training videos (these are referenced in the plan). For backstroke and the 200 yard medley relays, note backstroke turn difference rule above.
