Intrasquad Time Trial Meet
Intrasquad Time Trials
The Intrasquad Time Trials is our annual internal practice meet — Blue Ridge swimmers only. It's designed to give every swimmer a chance to race in a setting that mirrors a real dual meet: starting blocks, the timing system, heats, and lanes. It's also a great chance for newer families to see how a meet works before the regular season begins.
What to Expect
The Intrasquad runs similarly to a regular season dual meet, with a few key differences:
- Blue Ridge only — no visiting team
- 20 events — compared to 72 at a regular dual meet
- All events are individual — no relays
- No longer events — no 100 IM, no 100 Freestyle
- All events are mixed gender
- Coaches enter swimmers into events — there are no individual event requests; coaches will aim to enter most swimmers in each event for their age group
Schedule
- 5:30 PM — All swimmers and families arrive; 8&Under warm-ups begin
- 5:45 PM — 8&Under events begin
- ~6:30 PM — Warm-ups, ages 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-18
- ~6:45 PM — Events begin, ages 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-18
Like a regular meet, we want the whole team on deck from the start — older swimmers are encouraged to cheer on the 8&Under races before their own warm-ups begin at 6:30. 8&Under swimmers will wrap up close to their normal practice end time, and the shorter format means the full meet finishes well before a regular dual meet would.
Event Order
Events follow the same stroke-first ordering used in regular dual meets. After 8&Under events, the remaining age groups run stroke by stroke: all Freestyle, then all Backstroke, then all Breaststroke, then all Butterfly — with age groups running in order (9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-18) within each stroke.

How to Sign Up
Sign up through Swimtopia just like a regular meet — but for the Intrasquad, we only need to know if your swimmer is attending. There are no event requests and no relay sign-ups.
Declaration deadline: 9:00 AM on the day of the meet.
If your swimmer will not be attending, please still log in and mark them as not attending so coaches can plan accordingly. For step-by-step sign-up instructions, see Signing Up Your Swimmer for Meets.
Volunteering
We'll need lane timers on deck for every race — 12 timers total (6 lanes, 2 per lane). We won't be using Swimtopia sign-ups for this meet; instead, we'll ask parents who are on deck to help out. It's a great low-pressure way to get comfortable with the timer role before our first home meet.
Senior swimmers are also encouraged to help time 8&Under races — a fun way to get involved and show some team spirit.
The Intrasquad is also a great opportunity to shadow some of our more experienced meet officials — it's how most of our Stroke & Turn judges and Computer Operators got started. Interested? Find a coordinator on deck or email us at [email protected].
