Post Season Meets

Post-season is a series of meets that determine who advances to Divisionals and All City. Here's the sequence, in plain language. For exact dates, times, and locations, see the Meets and Events page.

Before any of this applies: a swimmer must have competed in at least two dual meets this season to be eligible for any post-season meet.

Also important, and worth reading before you commit to Prelims: swimming in Prelims means committing to swim in both Northern Divisionals and All City if your swimmer advances. If your swimmer can't attend either of those meets, they're not eligible to swim Prelims. Please mark "not attending" on the Prelims meet in Swimtopia if that's the case for your family.

The sequence is: Summer Showcase (optional) → Prelims (Girls and Boys, separate meets) → Northern Divisionals → All City.

For the current qualifying standards, see Prelim Qualifying Times. For the latest list of who has qualified so far this season, updated after every meet, see Meet Results.

Summer Showcase (formerly B-Champs)

An optional meet, and your swimmer's last chance to post a qualifying time before Prelims.

  • If your swimmer has zero individual qualifying times, they're eligible to swim the full meet.
  • If your swimmer has exactly one individual qualifying time, they're still eligible. They can swim up to 3 additional events chasing more qualifying times, but not the event they've already qualified in.
  • If your swimmer has two or more individual qualifying times, they've already qualified for Prelims and Showcase isn't for them.
  • A swimmer who qualified only as part of a relay (not individually) is also eligible.

No relays are swum at Showcase, and no team score is kept. Placement in each event is by time only. Ribbons are awarded to heat winners, 1st–6th place finishers, and all participants.

Prelims (Girls and Boys)

Girls and Boys Prelims are separate meets. Anyone who has qualified in an individual event (and can swim it legally) is eligible, as is anyone swimming on a relay that qualified.

Not sure where your swimmer stands? Check their race history in Swimtopia (look for the "PRE" label on qualifying times) or the latest qualifiers list on the Meet Results page. Just remember a qualifying time only counts if it was swum this season, and hitting a qualifying time is only one part of eligibility — your swimmer also needs to have competed in at least two regular season meets.

Relay entries are based on the team's combined times, not individual qualification. That means a swimmer may be entered in a relay, or listed as a relay alternate, even if they didn't individually qualify or haven't swum that relay before. Coach Dom will let swimmers and families know if this applies to them.

Wild Card (8&Under and 10&Under only): each team may enter one swimmer in each event, and one relay team, whose time doesn't meet the published qualifying standard — coach's discretion. This is typically used for a swimmer who's very close, or who's part of a qualifying relay but hasn't individually qualified. Coach Dom will let you know if your swimmer is the wild card entry.

Reminder: swimming in Prelims means your swimmer is committing to Northern Divisionals and All City if they advance. If your swimmer can't attend either meet, please mark "not attending" on the Prelims meet in Swimtopia rather than entering.

Northern Divisionals

The top 6 finishers from Prelims in each event advance to Divisionals.

All City

The top 6 from the combined results of Northern and Southern Divisionals advance to All City. All City is always held the first Tuesday of August.

Adult Meet (Bonus, Not a League Post-Season Meet)

Each GSSSL division also hosts an adult swim meet, open to swimmers 19 and up. Whether you're a recent Barracuda graduate or a not-so-recent one, you're welcome to join the Blue Ridge adult squad for this fun annual event.

See our Adult Meet page for more information and to sign up.
